We are also a socially conscious business, and we regularly donate food and services to shelters, non-profits and fundraisers. Some of Catering by Debbi Covington’s ongoing charitable contributions include financial donations, donating cookbooks and gift certificates for fundraising events and waiving chef service fees for all non-profits.

Drawing from an impressive field of local professionals, Debbi has partnered with some of the best event vendors and venues in the industry. As a result of her relationship with local vendors she is often able to arrange more personalized service and pricing. “I attribute my love of cooking to my mother. It was her love of food, and of its preparation and serving, that instilled in me a passion for all that is delicious!” reflects Debbi Covington, chef and owner of Catering by Debbi Covington. Debbi was born in eastern North Carolina and lived there until 1991 when she married her college sweetheart and moved to the Lowcountry of Beaufort, South Carolina. At every opportunity the Covingtons threw parties for friends and family that included creatively themed menus, décor and activities. Entertaining has always been in this self-taught chef’s blood, so no one was surprised when Debbi decided to turn cooking and entertaining into a career.

In 1997, Debbi translated her passion for cooking, creating memorable events and making people happy into a business — Catering by Debbi Covington. In the beginning, she specialized in luncheons and cocktail buffets; however, Debbi had a grander vision in mind and quickly transformed the business into a gourmet and specialty catering company serving boutique weddings, special events and private parties. Debbi’s meticulous nature, hands-on approach and passion for her work are hallmarks of Catering by Debbi Covington. Twenty-six years after its creation, Debbi continues to work as chef as well as oversee the business’ day-to-day operations and management.

Debbi Covington is an award-winning event caterer, YouTube chef, cookbook author and food columnist. She is the author of three cookbooks, Celebrate Beaufort, Benjamin Franklin Gold Medal Winner, Celebrate Everything! and Dining Under the Carolina Moon. Debbi also writes the food column Celebrate Every Day in Beaufort’s Lowcountry Weekly newspaper. Celebrate with Debbi Covington is the name of her YouTube channel. She has been featured as a “Master of Entertaining” in Southern Living magazine and her recipes have been published in multiple cookbooks including Southern Living’s Best Kept Secrets of the South’s Best Cooks and The Best of The Best of South Carolina. Debbi has a passion for cuisine and delights in creating seasonal and locally inspired menus.

Food Protection Manager Certification

SC DHEC requires all chefs to be Certified Food Protection Managers. We have to know how to keep foods at the correct temperatures for storing and serving (and in my case, transporting), how to eliminate cross-contamination/food-borne illnesses, and how to protect our clients from cross contact/reactions to food allergies. We have to recertify every 5 years. After several days of studying, an 8-hour class and a 2-hour exam, I’m pleased to share my recertification certificate with bragging rights. I received the highest score in my class.
