Save-a-Buck-or-Two Burgers

A recent $35 visit (for 2 burgers, fries and iced tea) to our favorite burger joint inspired Vince and me to stay home and cook our own lunch today.

While shopping for a catering gig this morning, I added a package of pre-made hamburgers, fresh buns, lettuce and a tomato to my order. Vince happily put the burgers on the grill at noon. They were ready to eat in about 15 minutes. Too easy! And, we have 2 burgers leftover to reheat for lunch tomorrow. I figure our lunches for both days with potato chips and milk was a grand total of $15. 

We have no plans to stop visiting our favorite burger restaurant altogether but cooking our own burgers every once in a while is going to become a standard practice. They were hot, fast and delicious! It took less time to cook lunch and clean up the dishes than it would have just to drive out to a restaurant — or even a fast food chain. Try it! You’ll be glad you did!

 

Easy Burgers on the Grill

4 burgers, (beef, turkey or chicken) pre-made from your local butcher

Salt and pepper, to taste

½ package hamburger buns, from your local deli

Dijon mustard or mayonnaise

Romaine lettuce, torn

Tomato, sliced

2 slices cooked bacon, optional

Season burgers, to taste, with salt and pepper. Grill burgers over medium heat until cooked to desired level of doneness. Serve hot burgers on a bun with mustard or mayonnaise, fresh lettuce, bacon and a slice or two of tomato. Serves 4.
